In this short video, Coblentz Society president Luisa Profeta of Rigaku Analytical Devices and Igor Lednev of the University at Albany preview their talks and sessions taking place at Pittcon, as well as give their opinions about what topics they hope to explore more at the conference.
In less than a week, separation scientists, industry professionals, researchers, and vendors will gather at the Boston Convention Center, in Boston, Massachusetts, for the annual Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, or Pittcon. Over the duration of the conference, attendees will be able to learn about the latest advancements in analytical science through a robust technical program, vendor presentations, poster sessions, booth exhibitions, and more (1). Pittcon also offers several social events and mixers designed to give attendees the opportunity to catch up with old friends and colleagues, as well as network with other professionals in the industry (1).
Pittcon has sessions dedicated to both analytical spectroscopy and chromatography.Professional associations, such as the Coblentz Society, are also presenting awards during the conference. The Coblentz Society is designed to facilitate the learning and advancement of vibrational spectroscopy (2). Its current president, Luisa T. M. Profeta, principal scientist of Rigaku Analytical Devices, will present the 2025 Williams-Wright Award at Pittcon to David W. Schiering of 908 Devices, Inc. She is an experienced spectroscopists, with most of her work specializing in Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy.
Igor Lednev, who is a Distinguished Professor and a Williams-Raycheff Endowed Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University at Albany, will present a couple talks at Pittcon around Raman spectroscopy and its role in forensics and clinical analysis (3). Lednev’s research group specializes in Raman spectroscopy and chemometrics to solve problems in biochemistry, forensics, and medicine (4).
In this video interview, Profeta and Lednev answer the following questions:
Spectroscopy will be live on the ground at Pittcon. To stay up to date with all our latest content and updates coming from Boston, be sure to subscribe and follow us on social media as we report from Boston.
