Event Overview:

Sample preparation of difficult matrices for XRF and ICP analysis can be especially challenging for many labs. One strategy for overcoming these challenges is electric fusion. Combined with customized method development and proper sample pulverization, Fusion is a sample preparation technique used to deconstruct and homogenize solid/semi-solid inorganic materials. This process provides a total solution for preparing challenging matrices for testing, producing accurate and reproducible results day in and day out.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Discover a more complete workflow solution for preparing challenging matrices for analysis with accuracy and repeatability while remaining safer than other accepted sample preparation processes.
  • Learn how to leverage customized fusion methods to achieve more accurate results and continually refine your sample preparation process.
  • Familiarization with the details and benefits of fusion technique adoption for your metals analysis workflows and the positive impact on your laboratory business.

Who Should Attend:

  • Lab Managers/Lab Directors
  • Lab Analysts/Lab Techs
  • Purchasing Agents
  • Metals Sample Preparation Technicians
  • Metal Analysts
  • Mine Sample Testing Personnel
  • Cement Sample Testing Personnel
  • Soil Sample Testing Personnel
  • Lithium Ion Battery Testing Personnel

Speakers:

Alain Chantal
Director, Business Development
Environmental Express

Alain Chantal is a distinguished figure in the field of electric fusion and one of the three founders of Katanax (established in 2002). Alain and his Katanax colleagues revolutionized sample preparation for X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analyses by introducing a commercially available alternative to gas-powered fluxers. In his current role Alain provides critical customer guidance as the Business Development Manager for Environmental Express - Katanax.

Jean-Christophe Tremblay-Cantin
Applications Specialist
Environmental Express

Jean-Christophe Tremblay-Cantin is an application specialist at Environmental Express, where he specializes in supporting both new and existing clients in optimizing borate fusion processes. In this role, he assists with method development, analytical troubleshooting, and problem-solving for ICP and XRF analyses, ensuring that laboratories achieve precise and reliable results. A co-author of 4 research articles on the quantification of radionuclides using ICP-MS/MS, he earned his BSc in chemistry in 2021 and is expected to complete his MSc by the end of 2024. Additionally, he holds a certification in the manipulation and reception of radioactive materials and has extensive experience in chemical waste management, including handling hazardous materials like mercury and radioactive samples.

Ben Judd
Global Product Manager
Environmental Express

Ben Judd, MBA, is an innovative problem solver and the global product manager for Environmental Express, a manufacturer of high-quality environmental laboratory testing solutions. He has over 10 years of experience in technical support roles, which allowed him to adeptly find the root cause of issues and propose solutions. Growing up on the Florida gulf coast exposed him to the importance of maintaining our environment and ecosystems from a young age. He earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Florida in 2008, and an MBA from the University of South Florida in 2020, with a focus in data analytics and business intelligence. Judd joined Environmental Express in 2022 after working for Metrohm USA in various roles over the course of 14 years. He strives to use his unique perspective and skill set to leave a lasting impression for environmental chemists by improving on existing processes.
